Free Online Image Splitter
Updated March 28, 2026
Most "free" image splitting tools have a catch. Watermarks. Mandatory signups. File size limits. Upload-to-server processing that makes you wonder who's looking at your photos.
Here's one that doesn't: SplitX. Everything runs in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.
How It Works
- Drop your image onto the page or click to upload
- Pick a layout — 3×3 for Instagram, 2×2 for Twitter, or set custom rows and columns
- Preview the cuts to make sure nothing important gets sliced through the middle
- Download as a ZIP file with numbered slices ready to post
Whole process takes about 5 seconds. No account, no email, no "free trial" that auto-renews.
Why Browser-Based Matters
When you use a server-based splitter, your photo gets uploaded, processed, and (ideally) deleted. The "ideally" part is the problem. You're trusting the tool's privacy policy, their server security, and that they actually delete your files.
SplitX uses the Canvas API in your browser. The image stays on your machine the entire time. There's literally nothing to upload — the splitting happens client-side using JavaScript. You can verify this by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads. It still works.
Supported Grid Layouts
| Layout | Slices | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 3×3 | 9 | Instagram profile grid |
| 2×2 | 4 | Twitter/X grid posts |
| 3×1 | 3 | Instagram carousel |
| Custom | Any | Panoramas, artwork, custom layouts |
Image Format Support
JPG, PNG, and WebP. Output is always PNG to preserve quality. If you need JPG output for smaller file sizes, any image converter handles that in bulk.
No Watermark. Seriously.
Every split image comes out clean. No "created with [tool]" text, no corner logos, no semi-transparent branding. What goes in is what comes out — just in pieces.
